Race Report – Lotto Cross Cup, Hannut Jan ’23, Junior Women

Junior women’s report from Hannut

England returned to this fixture after an absence of some years. We had the individual winner Innes Fitzgerald and second with Rebecca Flaherty. The course was good with challenges for all.

When the juniors approached their race the course was deteriorating as there were a number of younger athletes racing before us. The race started and Innes went straight to the front dictating the pace as she does in her races. The others followed behind with Hattie leading the way. Yasmin dropped out of the race at the end of the first lap. Innes continued her dominance leaving Rebecca , Hattie and Sophie( representing the South of England) mixing it with a couple of representatives of Ireland. Rebecca had an issue having suffered an ankle injury but continued.

Going into the larger last lap Rebecca had moved into second place followed by Sophie and the Irish athletes then Hattie. Hattie fought during the final lap and pulled through to fourth.

Result :
Innes Fitzgerald 15.31
Rebecca Flaherty 16.31
Sophie Nicholls 16.34
Hattie Reynolds 16.41

All the team are now looking forward to the Championship races this month and next month.
