England Senior Women victorious once again in the Home Countries International, with Alex Millard winning the race overall.
The pace was fast from start to finish due to the high standard of the field and the firm conditions underfoot. The team packed well in the first part of the race positioning themselves towards the front of the field. Going into the medium lap Jenny Walsh led the England quartet and the main field down the steep bank. As they went out of sight and into the woods the large group at the head of the field broke up into smaller groups.
It was all change going into the final large lap, which saw Jess Gibbon and Alex Millard towards the front of the leading pack which also included Grace Carson (NI), Cari Hughes, Eloise Walker, Amy-Eloise Markovc and Melissa Courtney-Bryant.
Alex pulled away going through the woods for the final time and and used her speed to finish 3 seconds ahead of Grace Carson closely followed by Jess. Jenny finished fast in 9th and Sophie finishing strongly in 15th giving the England team the win with South 2nd team and Midlands 3rd.
Having little current cross country form to select from, the team performed well and they are now all looking forward to racing in Liverpool at the European Trial.
